Akhilesh Yadav, the president of the Samajwadi Party, marked his 49th birthday on July 1 by awarding laptops to the top five scorers in Class 10 and Class 12 board exams administered by the UP board. He gave laptops to a total of 30 children. In honor of his birthday, party members arranged blood donation campaigns, yajnas, "bhandaras," and the distribution of food and medication.

The Customs authority at the Chennai airport on January 13 seized 1.42 kg of gold worth Rs 72.6 lakhs and other items including cigarettes, smartphones, laptops and liquor amounting to Rs 12.4 lakhs.
