SC Rejects Plea Filed By 14 Opposition Parties

In a breaking news, the Supreme Court bench rejected the petition filed by opposition. Notably, on April 5, the Top Court rejected the plea filed by 14 non-BJP parties against the misuse of central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI.) The court during the hearing said, "Can't make seperate rules for politicians". The opposition parties withdrew the plea.

Rahul Gandhi To Move Session Court In Modi Row Surname Case

Convicted in Modi Surname row, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi is in Surat, to challenge his defamation conviction. Notably, a Surat Court found Gandhi guilty and announced imprisonment for 2-years. The leader said, "Will also ask for an interim stay on the conviction which would also restore my Lok Sabha membership." Gandhi has been disqualified as a Lok Sabha member. Notably, Priyanka Gandhi will accompany her brother to Surat.

ED Issues Summon To Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav In Job Land Scam

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and RJD party leader Tejashwi Yadav in connection with the land for jobs scam. Notably, on March 10, the ED and CBI visited Patna and questioned Bihar CM, in connection with the Job Land scam, under the tenure of the Rashtriya Janata Dal. Now,  the CBI has stated that it has ample evidence against the RJD leader and hence summoned him for investigation.

Court Grants Bail To Social Media Influencer Sapna Gill In Prithvi Shaw Selfie Row

A court in Delhi granted bail to social media influencer Sapna Gill and three other accused in the Cricketer Prithvi Shaw selfie row. The three were accused of pertaining to alleged manhandling of India cricketer Prithvi Shaw and attacking his car with a baseball bat in Mumbai last week. Earlier in the day, the court Shobhit Thakur, Rudra Solanki and Sahil Singh to 14-day judicial custody, but later got bail.

SC Dismisses Misconceived Petition Demanding Ban On BBC Documentary

The Supreme Court bench dismissed an 'entirely misconceived' petition filed by Hindu Sena chief Vishnu Gupta, demanding a ban on the BBC. Gupta in his petition had claimed the BBC had taken an 'anti-India' position in the documentary over PM Narendra Modi, highlighting riots of 2002 Gujarat.  He also mentioned that the documentary is a result of a deep conspiracy against the global rise of India and PM Modi.

SC Refuses To Entertain Plea Seeking To Declare Cow As National Animal

A PIL was filed before the Supreme Court of India seeking direction to the centre to declare cow as the national animal of India. The court warned the lawyer, stating that such suits are baseless, and that no fundamental right has been violated. With this, the petitioner withdrew the plea. “Is this the job of the court? Should we throw laws into the wind because you come?,” said the bench.

National Lok Adalat Scheduled For November 12

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution announced that National Lok Adalat will be held on November 12 across the country. The Lok Adalat system will help disposing pending cases through mutual settlement between parties. The consumer commissions have been directed to make a list of cases which can possibly be settled. This list of pending cases will then be transferred to Lok Adalat.

Eleven PFI Workers Arrested & Sent To Judicial Custody By NIA Court

A special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested eleven PFI workers and sent them to judicial custody for 21 days, on September 30. The PFI workers were reportedly arrested under the UAPA Act from different locations last week. The arrested persons were earlier sentenced to 7-day judicial custody, which ended on September 30.
