Lightning Strikes Claim Lives Of At Least 11 In One Day: Madhya Pradesh

In Madhya Pradesh, 11 people died across four districts in one day, due to lightning. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of lightning and thunderstorms in eight districts. An ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh has been announced for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. According to IMD department scientists, in 2021, Madhya Pradesh reported the highest number of clouds and ground strikes.

Lightning Strikes, Kills 3 & Leaves 9 Injured In Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur

In Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur, at least three persons died and nine were left injured due to lightning, on June 4. Sitapur District Magistrate Anuj Singh said that the injured were immediately rushed to the hospital and are out of danger now. Meanwhile, ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh will reportedly be given to the family of the deceased. Further details are awaited.

17 Die Due To Lightning & Thunderstorms In Bihar; CM Nitish Kumar Expresses Grief

Grieving the demise of the deaths of 17 persons due to lightning and thunderstorms in Bihar, CM Nitish Kumar expressed his condolences. Furthermore, he announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased. Reportedly, six people died in Bhagalpur, three in Vaishali, two in Khagaria, one in Katihar, one in Saharsa, one in Madhepura, two in Banka and one in Munger.

Lightning Kills 3 People, Leaves 6 Injured In Uttar Pradesh

In Uttar Pradesh's Kaneta village, lightning killed three people and left six injured, confirmed police on May 22. Notably, the incident happened on May 21, when some laborers were cutting trees. The three dead people were identified as Rifaqat (55), Premchandr (23), and Rajendra (30) and will be given financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh. Furthermore, the injured were taken to the hospital and are said to be stable.

Ex-Gratia Of Rs 2 Lakh To Victims Who Died Of Lightning: PM Modi 

PM Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the family of victims who were killed due to lightning, thunder, and rain in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. Meanwhile, Rs 50,000 would be offered to the injured. Nearly 70 people were struck by lightning from various states in India. As per reports, notably, 38 people lost their lives in UP, while 20 were killed in Rajasthan.

Lighting Strikes Claim 68 lives In UP, MP & Rajasthan

Lightning amid rainfall across Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan claimed a total of 68 lives on July 11. Reportedly, among the 68 deceased, 41 cases were from UP, 20 from Rajasthan and the rest seven died in MP. Besides, over 10 people have also suffered injuries in Rajasthan so far. Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot has announced a sum of Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia to the families of the deceased.

Lightning Kills Boy, Leaves 3 Injured: Maharashtra

A 15-year-old boy was killed and three other minors were injured after lightning struck them when they climbed a tree in search of a mobile phone network in Maharashtra's Palghar district, on June 29. According to Rahul Sargang (revenue officer), the four boys were stuck under a heavy rainfall while grazing cattle, meanwhile, they climbed a tree and that lightning hit them. The injured ones are undergoing treatment in a rural hospital.

Lightning Caused The Death Of 18 Elephants In Assam, Report Claims

The post mortem reports of the elephants that died on May 12 at Kundoli Proposed Reserve Forest in Assam reveals death due to lightning. Reportedly, the evidences are still being investigated in a joint efforts of forest officials & meteorological department to provide an accurate reason. However, a detailed investigation report will be produced in the coming weeks. Notably, 18 elephants lost their lives in the Bamuni hillock.
