12-Year-Old Lioness Tests COVID-19 Positive At Sri Lanka Zoo 

A 12-year-old lioness has been tested positive for Covid-19 in Colombo's Dehiwala Zoo in Sri Lanka. Informing the development, Secretary of the State Veterinary Surgeons' association, Nuwan Hewangamage said that before the lioness 'Sheena' a male lion called 'Thor' had also been found positive for the virus a week ago. However, the 11-year-old lion recovered and his keepers had been advised to be quarantined for two-week.

Gujarat: 313 Gir Lions Died In 2 Yrs, Govt Claims Most Natural Deaths

Gujarat Government revealed that around 313 lions in Gir National Park lost their lives in a period of two years on March 6. Reportedly, during January 2019-December 2020, 69 of 71 male lions died of natural causes and 144 of the 152 cubs succumbed naturally. However, opposition leaders accused the state government of feeding rotten cattle meat to the animals. Earlier, a canine distemper virus outbreak killed 20 lions in Gir.

Gujarat Police Arrest Two People For Chasing Lions At Gir Range

The Gujarat Police has arrested two people for chasing and honking at the lions in Gadhiya village of Tulsishyam range, Gir forest. Junagadh's forests chief D T Vasavada said that they have identified the miscreants as Yunis Pathan and another as a minor. Moreover, the police arrested them on the basis of a video, which they shot from phone and uploaded on social media. The authorities have sent the two people on remand.
