Paris St Germain (PSG) forward Lionel Messi will not have his contract renewed at the club, confirmed local sources. The decision of not to renew the contract was taken amid an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia. Notably, Messi signed an optional third-season clause in his contract when he first arrived in 2021. Club officials have decided not to activate it. Meanwhile, the 35-year-old was suspended for two weeks.

In a recent interview which created speculations of legendary player Lionel Messi's retirement, he admitted to return to Barcelona. He said, "When I finish my career, I will return to live in Barcelona, it's my home." Lionel Messi, a player of Argentina and Paris Saint Germain, tested positive for COVID-19, on January 2. He is the fourth player of PSG, who tested positive for COVID-19, ahead of the French Cup match, Vennas. Other PSG players who tested positive are Juan Bernat, Nathan Bitumazala and Sergio Rico. "They are currently respecting isolation and are subject to the appropriate health protocols," said PSG in a statement.
