Liquor Smuggling

The Customs authority at the Chennai airport on January 13 seized 1.42 kg of gold worth Rs 72.6 lakhs and other items including cigarettes, smartphones, laptops and liquor amounting to Rs 12.4 lakhs. Andhra Pradesh’s Kovvur Special Enforcement Bureau Police conducted a raid and confiscated liquor from a lorry driver’s house on October 26. Reportedly, it had been smuggled from Kolkata. The lorry driver has been identified as Md Ahmad Alishah from Nidadavole town. The police seized 25 liquor boxes from Alishah's residence while 15 boxes liquor and 10 boxes whiskey worth Rs 5-10 lakhs were seized from his owner's house. 

The Andhra Pradesh police arrested two people for allegedly smuggling 100 liquor bottles from Telangana to AP, on September 1. The duo was traveling on a two-wheeler and was arrested near the Telangana border. The accused have been identified as Devarakonda Srinivas Rao and Devrakonda Rajesh, a resident of Khammam district, Telangana. The Police stated, "their movement was suspicious and their body shape was also looking bit strange."
