China’s Chengdu Under Lockdown After Reporting 157 New COVID Cases

China’s Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, has been put under a lockdown after it reported 157 fresh cases of COVID-19. The city is home to 21 million residents, and officials have announced a four-day nucleic testing to contain the spread of the virus. Residents have reportedly been asked not to leave their homes after 6 pm on September 1, until further notice.

'No Need To Shut Schools,' Say Experts Amid COVID-19 Surge

ICMR Additional DG, Dr Samiran Panda, has opined that there is no need to shut schools over a spike in Covid-19 cases. He also stated that children are not the drivers of the Covid-19 spread. He further stressed that school closures negatively affect children. Dr Chandrakant Lahariya, an epidemiologist and physician, also noted that Covid-19 tends to be mild or asymptomatic in most children.

Odisha's Anganwadi Centres To Reopen After 11 Months Of Remaining Shut

The Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) in Odisha, which were closed in April, 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will reopen on March 28. As per a letter sent by Director of ICDS and SW Arvind Agarwal, the centres will operate from 7:30 am to 9:30 am for 25 days a month, strictly adhering to the COVID-19 protocols. Furthermore, children unable to attend the centres will receive ration at their doorsteps.

Odisha Schools, Colleges To Reopen From Feb 7

Amid the decline in Covid-19 cases, the Odisha government has decided to reopen schools and colleges from February 7. "The physical classes for students of standard 8 to 12 along with colleges, universities, and other technical, professional education institutions will open from February 7," said Chief Secretary Mahapatra. The Board Examination of Class 10 and 12 will be conducted as per the guidelines, he further added.

Karnataka CM To Hold Meeting With District Collectors On Covid-19 Vaccination

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will chair a meeting with state district collectors to discuss the status of COVID vaccination, on January 18 at 4 pm. Mysore BJP MP Pratap Simha and one more senior leader are against implementing a weekend curfew in the state. "Rather don't close businesses and think of people's plight and take decisions," said Simha. CM will take the final decision on January 21.

J&K Orders Weekend Lockdown Amid Rise In COVID-19 Cases

No Relaxation In Curbs At Least Till Mid-February, Says Rajesh Tope
