V Senthil Case: ED Moves Apex Court Challenging Madras HC Orders

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) moved to the Supreme Court, challenging Madras High Court (HC) orders in the V Senthil Balaji case. Notably, the Madras HC approved the plea of Senthil, demanding to shift in a private hospital from a state-run hospital. However, the ED opposed the orders, saying Senthil is an influential minister and could manage to tamper evidence and witnesses. The SC listed the matter to June 21.

This Shelter Home In Tamil Nadu Is Place Of Horror For Inmates

Anbhu Jothi Ashram, a shelter home in Villupuram, Tamil Nadu is a place of horror. As per sources, running without a license for the past 17-years is a place of horror for inmates, who were tortured, assaulted and raped by the owner and staff. The incident came to light, after a US resident Salim Khan moved the Madras HC, saying his father went missing in 2021, leading to an investigation.

Victoria Gowri Sworn In As Madras HC Judge Amid Petition In SC

Advocate Lekshmana Chandra Victoria Gowri was sworn in as the Madras High Court judge, amid a petition filed against her, on February 7.  While she was taking the oath as the HC judge, the Supreme Court, reviewed the petitions and dismissed it saying, "On eligibility, there could be a challenge. But suitability... The courts should not get into suitability, otherwise, the whole process will become haywire."

Justice M Duraiswamy Appointed As Acting CJ Of Madrash HC

Justice M Duraiswamy, senior-most judge of the Madras High Court has been appointed its acting chief justice, said the law ministry on September 5. He will assume charge with effect from September 13, after incumbent chief justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari demits office on the evening of September 12, after attaining retired age of 62. While Supreme Court judges retire at 65, HC judges retire at the age of 62 years.

Kallakurichi Student Death Case: SC Refuses To Grant Permission For 3rd Post Mortem Of Victim

In the case of Kallakurichi student death, the Supreme Court of India refused to entertain the victim's father's plea to conduct a third post-mortem with the presence of a medical practitioner of petitioner's choice. Meanwhile, protests broke out in Kallakurichi, where buses were set ablaze and school property was vandalised. A class 12 student allegedly died by way of suicide, accusing two teachers in a suicide note.

SC Dismisses Plea Of Stay On 2nd Postmortem On TN Suicide Victim's Body

The Supreme Court dismissed a plea by the father of a student who died by suicide in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu. Victim's father filed a petition,  seeking to stay the second postmortem on the body, scheduled on July 19 as per the Madras HC's direction. CJI NV Ramana said,  "Sorry, the high court is already seized of the matter." Meanwhile, the Madras HC constituted a set of doctor's panels for postmortem.

PIL Seeking Stoppage Of Transfer Of 1K Crocs From Madras Crocodile Park Filed In Madras HC

A PIL has been filed in the Madras HC seeking to stop the transfer of 1,000 crocodiles from Madras Crocodile Park to Greens Zoological, Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre in Gujarat. The petitioner A Viswanathan, stated that the said facility in Gujarat has a 7,300 square meter area, which can only accomodate 56 crocodiles. He further sought the court to order a CBI probe into the irregularities in granting such permissions.

Madras HC Recommends Special Quota In Govt Jobs For Transgenders: Tamil Nadu

The Madras HC strongly recommended special quota reservation in government jobs for 'transgenders'. On March 2, Justice MS Ramesh reviewed a petition filed by Saratha, and directed the government to provide relaxation in fitness tests in few jobs and also asked to revise the upper age limit to 45, instead of 29. The HC passed an order reviewing petitions, asking the TNUSRB to make the recommended changes.

14-Day-Old Infant's Thumb Cut Off Due To Hospital Staff's Negligence

In a bizarre incident in Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur government hospital, a 14-day-old baby girl's left thumb was cut off while removing the paediatric cannula on June 8. Citing the negligence, the Madras High Court has ordered the govt to provide an interim compensation of Rs 75,000 to the parents. However, the Judge also directed the govt to undertake the surgery in order to avoid any permanent loss.
