The work of Madurai Potters of making earthen pots has been severely affected due to intermittent rainfall ahead of Pongal in Tamil Nadu. "It delayed the process of making pots and now we are unable to meet the demand," a potter said. In the last few years, many potters have changed their profession and taken up work in alternative industries. Notably, Pongal festival is dedicated to the Sun God.

Amid the COVID-19 restrictions in Tamil Nadu, a Madurai-based couple's wedding has gone viral as they conducted their marriage ceremony onboard a passenger flight. The couple - Rakesh and Dakshina - had booked an entire two-hour Madurai to Bangalore flight that hosted 161 guests. Tamil Nadu government on January 26 will award the Anna Gallantry Award to Madurai-based loco pilot who saved over 1,500 lives. Reportedly, on November 18, J Suresh applied emergency breaks of the Vaigai Express after noticing stone pieces on the railway track.
