Two persons were arrested for allegedly decamping with watches worth lakhs of rupees in Thane, Maharashtra, on January 22. A police official said the duo are from Jharkhand and were identified as Shahalam Fazlu Shaikh, and Rundal Niranjan Singh, who were decamping with watches worth four lakh rupees, and were nabbed from railway station. The police recovered watches, and an offence has been registered against the duo. 

Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader and a Maharastra Legislative Council Pravin Darekar has tested positive for COVID-19, on January 5. Besides, three Shiv Sena leaders including Urban development minister Eknath Shinde were also tested COVID-19 positive earlier. Shinde was tested positive for second time since last year. The leaders have urged all those, who came in their contact, to undergo COVID-19 test.

Following Kerala, Maharashtra has reported its first case of Zika virus infection in a 50-year-old woman from Pune's Purandar. However, the woman endured full recovery and her family members are reported to be safe. Reportedly, the team of the National Institute of Virology (NIV) visited Purandar who collected the blood samples confirmed the case. Notably, Aedes mosquitoes are the source of the virus, which also causes Chikungunya.

The Maharashtra government has asked its employees to avoid wearing jeans and T-shirts to offices. Moreover, the government has directed the state and contractual employees to wear khadi clothes on Fridays to motivate handmade clothes. Besides, the government has asked women employees to wear sarees, salwar-kurta, trouser pants and shirts.
