Shiv Sena Slams BJP's Decision To Rename Khel Ratna Award
Shiv Sena slammed the BJP government's decision to rename the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award to Major Dhyan Chand. Reportedly, the reason for "public sentiment" as being the actual cause of change is still uncertain. Furthermore, the BJP was accused of indulging in political games with "revenge and malice". Khel Ratna Award Renamed As 'Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award'
PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter on August 6 and announced, ''I've been getting many requests from citizens...the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award will hereby be called the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.'' Dhyan Chand is known for winning gold in the 1928, 1932, and 1936 Olympics. The announcement was made a day after the Indian men's hockey team won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
