Malian Army Attacked By Terrorist Group; 42 Troops Dead & 22 Injured

West Africa's Mali fell victim to terrorist attack as Malian Army's Tessit unit was ambushed by terrorist groups, informed Mali government on August 10. The attack has resulted in the death of at least 42 Malian soldiers, and left 22 injured. The attack was allegedly carried out by Islamic State in Greater Sahara (ISGS), amid a decade-long insurgency in the nation. Meanwhile, 37 militants were killed during the attack.

31 Bus Passengers Killed By Militants In Central Mali

In a shocking incident, Militants shot dead at least 31 passengers of a bus in central Mali on December 3. The bus plies between the village of Songho to a market in Bandiagara twice a week reported Reuters. The insurgents are said to be connected with al Qaeda and Islamic State. According to an official, militants also injured several others in the attack.

France Threatens Of Troops Withdrawal From Mali's Sahel Region

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron has warned Mali of withdrawing its 5,100 troopers from the Sahel region, if the Islamist radicalization increases due to political instability. France has been providing military support to the leaders of its former colonies in Africa for decades. Notably, President Macron recently said that he has told the leaders that France will not support countries without democratic legitimacy and transition.

Mali's Military Detains Prez, PM, Defence Minister Of Interim Govt

The military in Mali on May 24 detained the President, PM and Defence Minister of the interim government. Reportedly, the action came after government removed to military leaders in reshuffling. While the UN, African Union and ECOWAS urged for the immediate and unconditional release of the leaders, a military official from Kati said 'What they (the detained leaders) have done is not good' and the decision will be made soon.

Woman Gives Birth To 9 Babies While Ultrasound Showed Only 7

A 25-year-old woman named Halima Cisse from Africa's Mali has attracted the world's attention as she gave birth to nonuplets i.e nine children, which included five girls and four boys. Adding to the surprise, Cisse's pregnancy even proved the ultrasound wrong as it had shown only seven children in the womb. Meanwhile, Mali's Health Minister Fanta Siby stated, "the newborns and the mother are all doing well".
