Afghanistan Faces Economic Woes Since Taliban Took Over

Afghanistan is reported to be facing economic hardships ever since the Taliban took over. Furthermore, agriculture and services sector declined due to drought and increasing insecurity. Also, over 1 million children faced malnutrition and some even starved to death. The people were subjected to outbreak of diseases like measles and polio. Report, over 2,000 hospitals and clinics were forced to close due to shortage of funds.

Over 9 Lakh Indian Kids Suffer From Severe Malnourishment: Smriti Irani

There are over 9.3 lakh severely acute malnourished children between the age group of six months and six years in India till November 2020, said Women and Child Development Minister (WCD) Smriti Irani. Reportedly, UP alone contributed to over four lakh malnutrition children.“Under Poshan Abhiyaan, the target is to bring down stunting of children under 6 years from 38.4% to 25% by the year 2022", showed data.

Bihar: Health Survey Reveals 42.8% Of Children Suffer Malnutrition

In a shocking revelation, Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey on February 24 informed the Legislative Council that 42.8% of children suffer from severe malnourishment. Resultantly, health cards were circulated among 1.22 crore minors, rendering supplemental doses. COVID Likely To Cause Increase Of 1 Million TB Patients In Global Tally

Senior scientist of the WHO, Dr Soumya Swaminathan, has warned that the global tally of tuberculosis patients can surge by 1 million due to the pandemic. She cited that not only TB notification has dropped by 50% to 60%, undernutrition has also increased which "might drive an additional 1 million cases of TB a year". She also said that the COVID-19 "has definitely affected" India's target to eliminate TB by 2025.

India ranked 131 among 189 nations by UNDP

India Ranked 131st In Human Development Index; Slips By Two Spots

Slipping by two spots, India has secured 131st rank in the 2020 Human Development Index released by the United Nations Development Programme. The report placed India in 'medium human development' category with 0.645 score. However, it noted that while India’s solar capacity increased, the hunger among indigenous children has shot up with girls being the major sufferers. The report was topped by Norway, followed by Ireland and Switzerland.

BJP Chief JP Nadda Urges People to Share Recipes of Nutritious Food with Govt

On September 7, BJP Chief JP Nadda requested to prepare nutritious food and share the recipes with Government for the POSHAN Maah scheme. After launching the social media campaign, Nadda said that the Government aims to form a database with indigenous dishes from all over the country. The scheme was aimed at nurturing pregnant women and children with proper nutrition and address malnutrition by 2022.
