Kerala: Forest Officials Book 5 For Killing, Eating Leopard In Idukki
Kerala forest officials on January 22 arrested five people in Idukki for killing a leopard and consuming its meat. The officials also recovered 10 kilogram of uncooked meat and body parts of the leopard from the accused. Shocked over the incident, the forest officials said this was the first case where they busted someone for consuming leopard meat. Man-Animal Conflict: Assam Forest Guards Kill Violent Wild Buffalo
In a rare man-animal conflict, Assam’s forest officials had shot dead a wild buffalo which had turned violent in Biswanath district. Reportedly, guards killed the animal on January 14 in self-defence, as it had gone wild killing two locals. The Kaziranga National park authorities suspect that the animal left its habitat due to the loud noise from the community fishing crowd gathered to celebrate Magha Bihu festival.

Tamil Nadu: Male Elephant Dies Of Electric Shock In Coimabatore
A male elephant died of electrocution on the outskirts of Coimbatore when it accidentally came into contact with an electric fence in a paddy field. On the information from Semmedu village locals, the Boluvampatti forest range officials discovered the high voltage electric fence was connected illegally. Filing a case under the Wild Life Offence Report against Durai alias Aruchamy, the authorities are in search of the absconding accused.

NCF Reports Over 85% Leopards Captured In Karnataka Were Translocated
Nature Conservation Foundation's report revealed 268 of 357 leopards captured by Karnataka forest officials were translocated during 2009-2016. Reportedly, of all the leopards captured, atleast 29 got killed in man-animal conflicts. Experts opined livestock killing, traps, and big-cat sightings in human dwellings were major issues.
