Minibus Accident In J&K’s Poonch Claims Lives Of 11, Leaves 25 Others Injured

In Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, in a minibus accident in Sawjian area, as many as 11 persons were killed and 25 other were left injured. Mandi Tehsildar Shehzad Latif said that the injured have been rushed to a hospital for treatment. Reportedly, the accident occurred when the minibus was travelling from Mandi to Sawjian. Also, the Indian Army is engaged in a rescue operation.

PM Modi To Visit Mandi On September 24, Confirms HP CM Thakur

PM Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Himachal Pradesh and address the youth at Mandi, ahead of the State Assembly elections. On September 9, HP CM Jairam Thakur confirmed PM Modi's visit and said, "I am happy that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited Himachal Pradesh 7 times." He added, "Now on the 24th of this month." As per PMO, Modi will visit Paddal Ground, Mandi in Himachal Pradesh.

Chakki Bridge Collapses, Flash Floods Reported In Kangra, Himachal Pradesh

In Himachal Pradesh's Kangra, a Chakki bridge collapsed, confirmed the Additional District Magistrate on August 21. In addition, a flash flood also hit the mandi region of the state, causing trouble to the residents, as water entered their houses and shops in the Kangra district. The Kangra ADM Rohit Rathore is supervising the situation and asked for the rescue of people in the low-lying region, affected due to floods.

Senior Civil Judge Gaurav Sharma Dismissed On Corruption Charges: Himachal Pradesh

The government of Himachal Pradesh has dismissed senior civil judge Gaurav Sharma on the recommendations of the high court due to corruption charges. Sharma was the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) of Sundernagar in Mandi district. Reportedly, he was caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 40,000 bribe from a local resident, four years ago. On July 6, 2017, the court proposed to hold an inquiry against Sharma.

HP Police Destroy Over 15 Lakh Illegally Cultivated Poppy Plants

Seizing over 15 lakh opium plants, the Himachal Pradesh Police have destroyed the illegal cultivation of poppy plants in nearly 66 bighas of land. The plants were cultivated on a hilltop in Mandi district and the policemen took nearly two days to destroy the illegal crop. Mandi SP Shalini Agnihotri said that "around 330 kilos of opium could have been produced" with an estimated market price of Rs 10 crore.
