No Instances Of Manual Scavenging Seen In India: Centre

The Centre on August 10 informed the Parliament that no manual scavengers were reported in the country. In response to a query by the lawmaker S Venkatesan of the Communist Party of India, the Centre replied, "though manual scavenging continues there are no proves to vindicate the claims". On the contrary, separate surveys conducted in 2013 and 2018 show the presence of 58,098 manual scavengers in the country.

Two Men Die Of Suffocation During Cleaning Of Septic Tank In Delhi

Two catering workers died of suffocation while cleaning a septic tank at a banquet hall in Delhi's Ghazipur. Identified as Lokesh Kumar (35) and Prem Chand (40), the men were promised Rs 1,500 each for cleaning the tank. Reportedly, they were not provided any protective gear which caused their death. Madras HC Says Punish Municipality Heads For Manual Scavenging Deaths
