Mumbai Schools Reopen For Classes 1 to 12 With Strict COVID-19 Protocols

Amid declining numbers of COVID-19 cases, Mumbai school will reopen for classes 1 to 12 from January 24.  However, classes will be conducted following COVID-19 protocols, said Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar.  Notably, due to COVID-19 surge, schools were closed since January 4. Mumbai Mayor Given Security After Death Threats, Maha Minister Assures Action

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar received a threat letter on December 11, following which she had registered a complaint to the police station. Talking about the threat letter Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil assured security and action. "The search operation of the sender is on. The culprit would be punished harshly", said Patil. Earlier in 2020 also, the Mumbai Mayor received the death threat over the phone.

QR Passes For Mumbaikars To Board Local Trains: Mayor Kishori Pednekar

Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar informed on August 10 that QR passes will be available to fully vaccinated Mumbaikars at 65 railway stations allowing them to board local trains from August 15. The QR codes will aid the railway authorities to substantiate the authenticity of people traveling in local trains. Besides, an app will be launched where passengers with smartphones can download QR passes.

Mumbai Mayor Takes Jibe At Opposition BJP Over COVID Death Data

Taking a jibe at the opposition BJP's claims of Maharashtra's COVID-19 deaths being underreported, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar said that there are no rivers in Mumbai to dump bodies. Pednekar said, “All Covid deaths in Mumbai are recorded at three places, so the data can't be hidden". Recently, BJP-ruled Bihar and UP were also criticised for under reporting COVID deaths and burying dead bodies along riverside.
