CBI Registers Case Against Mehul Choksi Over Complaint By IFCI Limited

The CBI has registered a case against Mehul Choksi based on a complaint filed by IFCI Limited for allegedly causing a loss of around Rs 22 crores. "It was also alleged that the said Director colluded with the Valuers and got the valuation of the pledged jewels done with exorbitant and inflated value. The diamonds were allegedly of low quality and not real gemstones," shared a CBI official.

Rs 18,000 Cr Returned To Banks From Mallya, Choksi & Nirav Modi

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, informed Supreme Court that Rs 18,000 crore have been retrieved from Mallya, Nirav Modi and Choksi in money laundering case. During the hearing, Mehta said, in the past five years, ED investigated over 2,000 cases. Notably, Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi are booked for money laundering cases. Notably, in the last hearing, the apex court gave a final warning to appear before court.

Bank Consortium Extracts Rs 792.11 Cr By Liquidating Mallya's Assets

According to Enforcement Directorate (ED), the SBI-led consortium extracted Rs 13,100 crore by liquidating the assets of Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi, and Mehul Choksi. Out of the total recovered assets, Mallya's assets stand at Rs 792.11 crore. Reportedly, the assets were confiscated under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The three businessmen allegedly defrauded various PSBs by extorting money through their companies.

Dominica Court Denies Bail To Mehul Choksi Citing 'Flight Risk'

Fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi will not be able to come out of jail as the Dominica High Court has denied him bail. Although the high court observed there was no condition to stop him from leaving the country, Choksi was denied bail on the ground of 'flight risk'. He was jailed in Dominica for illegally entering the country from Antigua and Barbuda, where he had fled in 2018 from India.

Dominica High Court Adjourns Mehul Choksi's Bail Hearing Till June 11

The Dominica High Court has adjourned the wanted diamantaire Mehul Choksi's bail till June 11. Reportedly, Choksi approached the HC after the magistrate court rejected his bail petition on the charges of illegal entry into the Caribbean island. According to Dominica News Online, the government, represented by Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Sherma Dalrymple, "seriously opposed" to Choksi's plea, considering him a flight risk.
