The Indian embassy in Kyiv has asked Indian citizens, especially students whose stay is "not essential", to return home. In addition, People who would remain in Ukraine are asked to stay in touch with the embassy. The notice comes as tensions are escalating at the Ukraine-Russia border. Russia has amassed nearly 1.3 lakh troops at the Ukrainian border. More than 20,000 Indian students and nationals reside in parts of Ukraine.

“I object to the migration of Muslims to India” from Afghanistan, said Surendra Jain, Vishwa Hindu Parishad Joint General Secretary. He asserted that all the VHP volunteers would appreciate helping Hindus and Sikhs who migrated from the war-torn country as evacuees.  Besides, he asked Punjab CM Amrinder Singh and Akali leaders whether they support offering citizenship to Afghan Sikhs and Hindus.

The Home Ministry has disclosed that over six lakh Indians gave up their citizenship during 2015-19 in favour of securing citizenship of another nation. Addressing the Lok Sabha on February 9, Union Minister Nityanand Rai added that 1,24,99,395 Indian nationals currently live in foreign countries. India has topped the 2015/16 list of highly educated migrants in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries. The recent OECD data revealed that out of 120 million migrants living in the member countries, 30-35% were highly educated.
