The US Is Overreacting To Weapon Developments: North Korea

Owing to the missile tests and questioning sincerity of Washington's offer of talks, North Korea on October 21, commented over the US's reaction and accused them of operating "double standards" over weapons development. However, "It is normal to conduct these tests like any other countries do to develop and check their defence capabilities," says the government of North Korea.

DRDO Test Fires Surface-To-Air Akash Missile From Coast Of Odisha

The new generation Akash surface-to-air missile system was successfully flight-tested by the DRDO from a test range off the Odisha coast. According to the defense ministry, the missile was test-fired around 12:45 PM on July 21. “Once deployed, the Akash-NG weapon system will prove to be a force multiplier for the air defense capability of the IAF,” the Ministry said. The missile can fly at about Mach 2.5.

Russian Military Successfully Tests S-500 Defense Missile

The Russian military successfully tested the S-500 defense missile system on July 20. In the live coverage shown, the missile can be seen getting steady for a launch, releasing the radar, and finally being fired into the atmosphere. Also, the missile testing took place in Southern Russia at the Kapustin Yar shooting range. The missile which was earlier to be delivered in 2025 could now be delivered early.

BrahMos Missile's Naval Variant Successfully Tested In Bay Of Bengal

In addition to the ongoing missile tests, the Indian Navy has successfully tested the naval variant of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile in the Bay of Bengal on December 1. The missile, which has been produced under the joint venture of India and Russia, has a range of 400 km and can fly three times the sound's speed. Moreover, the missiles can also be launched from submarines, ships and aircraft.

DRDO Successfully Tests SMART in Odisha

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) tested Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART), on October 5. The test which was conducted in Odisha was successful in meeting all the planned objectives including the release of torpedo. Reportedly, SMART will play a major role in anti-submarine warfare (ASW).  Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh has also lauded the efforts of DRDO.

New and advanced version of a nuclear-capable missile, Shaurya was successfully tested on October 3 off the coasts of Odisha. According to reports, the missile would be added to the strategic forces to complement a similar existing missile. This light-weight missile can be easily operated and can hit targets at around 800 km. While moving nearer to the target, the missile moves at hypersonic speed.
