Mizoram Reports 1,116 New COVID-19 Cases; Positivity Rate Stands At 19.35%

The Department of Information and Public relations on January 22, said that Mizoram reported 1,116 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths in the last 24 hours. The current positivity rate in the state stands at 19.35%. The total number of cases in the state has gone up to 1,58,368, while the active caseload stands at 9,608. Notably, the COVID-19 death toll in the state stands at 578.

Mizoram Logs 984 New COVID-19 Cases; Positivity Rate Stands At 15.08%

The state health department on January 20, said that Mizoram reported 984 new COVID-19 cases, no fatalities and no recoveries in the last 24 hours. The current positivity rate in the state stands at 15.08%. The total number of cases in the state has gone up to 1,56,054, while the active caseload stands at 9,075. Notably, COVID-19 death toll in the state stands at 576.

Mizoram Reports 1,312 New COVID-19 Cases, 1 Death In Last 24 Hours

The Department of Information and Public Relations, on January 19, said that Mizoram reported 1,312 new COVID-19 cases, while one person died, in the last 24 hours. The current positivity rate in the state stands at 16.02%. The total number of cases now in the state has gone up to 1,55,071, while the active caseload stands at 9,012. Notably, the COVID-19 death toll in the state has risen to 574.

Mizoram Reports 1,280 New COVID-19 Cases, 1 Death In Last 24 Hours

A total of 1,280 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Mizoram, while one person died due to the virus, in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases now in the state has gone up to 1,53,758, while the active caseload stands at 8,869, as per Information and Public relations department. Notably, the COVID-19 death toll in the state has risen to 573, after the recent death.

Earthquake Of Magnitude 4.2 Jolts Mizoram's Champhai

In Mizoram's Champhai, an earthquake measuring magnitude of 4.2 on the Richter scale struck on December 17 at 1:43 AM, according to the National Center for Seismology (NSC). The quake occurred at a depth of 60 km from the surface. It was located 56 km Southeast of Champhai, reported ANI. However, there are no reports of death and damage to property so far.

Assam Rifles Sets Up 47-feet Tall Christmas Star In Mizoram

Ahead of the Christmas, the Assam Rifles trooper erected a Christmas star, measuring 47-feet tall at Lunglei in Mizoram, said officials on December 13. The star is said to be the largest in the northeastern region. The Assam Rifles called it ''a beacon of hope with an aim to spread a message of togetherness for the local populace''. Notably, over six million Christians live in Mizoram, Nagaland, and Meghalaya.

Earthquake Of 6.1 Magnitude Shakes Northeast Region

The National Seismology Department said that the northeast region, including Assam, Mizoram, Manipur, and Tripura was jolted by an earthquake of 6.1 magnitude on November 26. The epicentre of the quake was reported to be near the boundary of Myanmar, near Mizoram. So far, there're no reports of damage to property and loss of life. Earlier on April 28, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit the Assam region.

Mizoram Bans Firecrackers, Sky Lanterns During Festive Season

Firecrackers, sky lanterns and other pyrotechnic materials have been banned by Mizoram. Furthermore, selling and buying of toy guns with bullets during Christmas and New Year, was also banned by the government. Reportedly, regular checks on shops are conducted by a special team  of the state district. Moreover, the government requested the public to celebrate without bursting crackers and causing pollution.

MNF Wins By-election On Tuirial Assembly Seat In Mizoram

The Election Commission on November 2 announced that the ruling Mizo National Front's (MNF) candidate K Laldawngliana won the byelection to the Tuirial assembly seat in Mizoram. Laldawngliana won the election by a margin of 1,284 votes against the Zoram People's Movement's (ZPM) Laltlanmawia. The seat was vacated after the death of ZPM's associate MLA Andrew H Thangliana. The MNF now has 28 MLAs in the 40-member assembly.

Mizoram reported Fresh Covid Cases

Mizoram Reports 1,302 Fresh COVID Cases; Around 16,075 Active 

Mizoram state health bulletin informed about the fresh COVID-19 cases, around 1,302 reported in last 24 hours including five fatalities. However, there are 1,02,629 cumulative positive cases in the state including 16,075 active, and total fatalities rose to 341. Moreover, 86,213 people have recovered till now a total of 9,749 COVID-19 tests have been conducted by the state authorities.
