Oommen Chandy (79,) the former Kerala CM and veteran Congress leader died in the wee hours of July 18. He was suffering from throat cancer and died at private hospital in Bengaluru. Furthermore, the last rites of Oommeni Chandy are scheduled to be held in Puthuppally, Kerala with full state honours on July 19. Meanwhile, speaking of Chandy's achievement, Oommen scripted history and was a sitting legislator for 53 years.

in a viral video, a woman legislator from the Thane district of Maharashtra was seen slapping a junior civic engineer in public view. Mira Bhayandar MLA Geeta Jain abused two engineers of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) over razing a house which resulted in its occupants, including children, being forced to stay on the road ahead of monsoon. The MLA said she didn't regret it and is ready for the consequences.

In a major relief for the Samajwadi Party, the MP-MLA Court Session acquitted leader Azam Khan in the 2019 Defamation Case. Notably, a Uttar Pradesh court convicted Khan for his hate speech during a public rally. The judgement reversing the order of the lower court, was a major victory for the SP in the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh Government. Khan, the then SP MLA from the Rampur Sadar seat was convicted.

Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren has been disqualified as MLA by the Election Commission of India, confirmed sources on August 26. The announcement came after a hearing in the Hemant Soren mine leasing case which was being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI. Notably, the BJP has accused Soren of extending himself a mining lease and sought his disqualification as an MLA.

Tripura CM Manik Saha, who won the by-election from Town Bardowali assembly seat, is scheduled to take oath as MLA on July 8, confirmed Tripura Speaker Ratan Chakraborty on July 4. The Hyderabad police registered a case against five accused, all minors for alleged gang-rape charges. A 17-year-old teen who went to a pub was allegedly attacked by the accused, who took her to a secluded area of Jubilee Hills and raped her in turns Furthermore, the accused are said to be from a politically influential background including the son of an MLA.
