Monsoon Parliament Session

In the Monsoon Parliament Session, a new Bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha. The bill proposed to replace the Chief Justice of India (CJI) in the selection panel for appointment of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and Elections Commissioners (ECs). So far, as per a Supreme Court order, the selection committee had three members, the PM, the Leader of Opposition of Lok Sabha and the Chief Justice.

During the Monsoon Parliament session, a discussion over pending family cases was held in the Lok Sabha. On July 26, Kaushalendra Kumar of Janata Dal-United said, over 11.4 lakh cases are pending in family courts in India, demanding their speedy settlement, under the Family Court Act. Notably, the discussions were held after Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju moved Family Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2022, for consideration and debate. 

Union Minister Smriti Irani took a dig at the Wayanad MP and former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, over repeated adjournments of the Parliament. On July 20, Irani said, "A gentleman who has made his political collogue to ensure that productive debate does not take place in parliament had a chequered parliamentary history".
