Amit Shah Tables 3 Bill In Monsoon Parliament Session

Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday tabled bills to replace the British-era Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Indian Evidence Act and to provide for capital punishment for mob lynching, sexual assaults on minors, 20-year imprisonment for gang rape besides repeal of sedition offence. Furthermore, the bills would be sent to the panel for further scrutiny.

Lok Sabha Session Adjourned Till Monday Over Leaders Uproar

The ongoing Lok Sabha session of the Monsoon Parliament has been adjourned until July 24, Monday. According to sources, the session was disturbed over uproar by the opposition members, demanding a discussion over the recent Manipur Violence and sexual assault with the two women. In addition, the leaders also created ruckus over the silence of the BJP MPs. Following the drama at the parliament, the Speaker adjourned the session.

PM Modi To Table UCC Draft In Parliament Session

The new Uniform Civil Code (UCC) draft is all set and will be presented in the next monsoon parliament session. On June 30, the UCC Committee said completed the draft of the UCC, which will implement one law for all. "The report of the expert committee along with the draft will be printed and submitted to the Government of Uttarakhand," said Retd SC Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, UCC draft committee.

Monsoon Session Sees 2nd Highest Count Of Bills Passed Since 2014

The recently concluded monsoon session passed the second-highest number of bills since 2014 despite having excessive disturbance and disruption caused throughout. Reportedly, a total of 1.1 bills per day were passed in 17 days despite many hours lost on the opposition's protests. Among the 19 bills were Taxation Laws Bill, Tribunals Reform Bill, and more. Reportedly, the 2020 monsoon session has seen the highest bill count since 2014.

Monsoon Session May Be Curtailed Due To Pegasus Row

The government may shorten the Monsoon Session that was to end on August 13, citing the Pegasus turmoil by the opposition for nine consecutive sessions or an impending COVID-19 menace, said sources on July 30. “The government is ready to discuss every people-related issue in Parliament, but the Opposition does not want that," a minister said. He also assured that the government will initiate more efforts for smooth functioning.

Delhi To Witness Another Farmers' Protest; Security Tightened

Delhi to witness farmers' protest at Jantar Mantar starting July 22 from 11 am to 5 pm amid the ongoing parliament Monsoon session.
