In Maharashtra, a strict rule of wearing seatbelts mandatorily for all passengers travelling in a vehicle. The new rule under the Motor Vehicle Act will be in effect from November 1, confirmed Mumbai Police. "As per the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, under section 194(b) (1) Whoever drives a motor vehicle without wearing a safety belt or carries passengers not wearing seat belts shall be punishable." the issued notice read.

Considering the ongoing pandemic, the Road Transport Ministry has extended the validity of all vehicle-related documents till March 31, 2021.
