Mumbai Court Extends Police Remand Of RPF In Shooting Incident

Mumbai Court on August 11, extended the police remand of Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Chetan Singh till August 7 for allegedly shooting dead his colleague and three other passengers in train on July 31. The Government Railway Police (GRP) added Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 153-A, for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion in the case against the accused. The hearing is on August 11.

Mumbai Special Court Announces 10 Year Imprisonment In Minor Rape Case

A special court in Mumbai sentenced 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to Sajad Aslam Kankali (26) for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a seven-year-old minor girl. On July 12, special judge VV Virkar convicted the accused Sajad Aslam under the relevant sections of IPC and POCSO Act. Besides imprisonment, a fine of Rs 13,000 was also imposed on him. The incident happened in 2015, and was under trial these years.

Mumbai Court Rejects Bail Plea Of Nawab Malik, Anil Deshmukh

The Mumbai Court rejected the bail plea of Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh, both NCP leaders, on June 9. Notably, Malik and Deshmukh filed a petition seeking bail for one-day, in order to vote in the Rajya Sabha. The lawyers of the leaders demanded a copy of the orders, to approach the Bombay High Court. Moreover, Malik and Deshmukh are registered with the Enforcement Directorate in the money-laundering cases.

Advocate Gunaratna Sadavarte Remanded In 14-Day Judicial Custody

A Mumbai court announced 14-days of judicial custody of advocate Gunaratna Sadavarte, on April 20. The remand custody was in the view of the recent Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) workers' protest outside the NCP Chief Sharad Pawar's house. On April 8, he was arrested in regard to the protest. Reportedly, he will be in the judicial custody till May, for further investigation.

A Mumbai court remanded lawyer Gunaratna Sadavarte into judicial custody till April 18. The judgment was made in connection with the case in which Sadavarte allegedly used objectionable language during agitations for the Maratha reservation in 2020. Notably, Sadavarte was brought to Satara and was arrested on April 14. Later on April 15, he was produced before a court, which remanded him to police custody till April 18.

Court Asks Leander Paes To Pay Monthly Rent, Maintenance To Ex-Partner Rhea Pillai

A Mumbai court passed an order in the domestic violence case filed by model-actor Rhea Pillai, against her former partner and tennis player Leander Paes. In addition, the court directed Paes to pay a monthly rent of Rs 50,000 and monthly maintenance of Rs 1 lakh to Pillai if the latter chooses to leave their residence. Notably, Pillai had approached the court in 2014 alleging domestic violence against Paes.
