Maharastra CM To Hold Meeting To Assess COVID-19 Situation
Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray will chair a meeting with the Covid-19 task force, in order to review the current Covid-19 situation on October 18 at 3 PM. The state has reported over 1700 fresh cases, which totals the tally to more than 65,00,000 cases. However, the state has an impressive recovery rate of 97.39%, and the fatality rate stands at 2.12%. Furthermore, the state has 28,631 active cases currently.

Govt Asks Defence PSUs To Create Emergency Facilities, Oxygen Plants
Approaching the defence public sector undertakings, the Defence ministry has asked them to create emergency facilities for COVID relief. Non-Slums, High-Rise Buildings In Mumbai Contribute 90% COVID Cases
A recent study by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has suggested that high-rise buildings and non-slum areas contribute to over 90% of the COVID cases in Mumbai. Reportedly, of the total 87,443 active COVID-19 cases (as of April 16) in the city, 79,032 cases have been reported from high-rise buildings while slums logged only 8,411 cases. Interestingly, Mumbai's slums were the worst-hit during the first wave of the pandemic.

Maharashtra: Reliance to Supply 100 Tons of Oxygen to COVID-19 Hospitals
Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has started supplying Oxygen from its refinery in Gujarat's Jamnagar to Covid-19 hospitals in the state of Maharashtra. Following an "oxygen scarcity" caused by the increase in Covid-19 cases, Maharashtra will receive 100 tons of oxygen from RIL at no cost. The company is diverting oxygen streams meant for petroleum coke gasification units, after making it suitable for medical use.

IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals Player Axar Patel Tests positive for COVID-19
Delhi Capitals player Axar Patel has been reported Covid-91 positive. Patel is currently in isolation at a hospital. He checked into the team hotel in Mumbai on March 28, with a negative report but his second test report came positive. However, the team's training schedule remains the same as he was not a part of the bio-bubble. The IPL is all set to begin from April 9.

Fire At Mumbai Hospital Kills Six; Over 70 COVID Patients Shifted
A massive fire at Mumbai’s Bhandup-based COVID-19 care, Sunrise Hospital, on March 25 has killed at least six people. Mumbai Airport Introduces COVID Kit To Provide Results In 13 Minutes
In order to save the time of travellers, the Mumbai International Airport has launched a new COVID-19 testing technology that would provide results in just 13 minutes. ‘ID Now’, the rapid molecular testing kit, is developed by Abbot Laboratories and it falls in accordance with all the COVID-19 standards set by the ICMR. Mumbai Might Develop Herd Immunity by Dec-Jan: TIFR report
In TIFR projections to BMC, Mumbai may develop herd immunity in 75% of slum areas and 50% of non-slum areas by December-January. Report also warned about the second wave of hospitalizations and deaths if total unlock comes before November. However, the model does not account the concern of reinfections that have been witnessed around the world. Reportedly, TIFR and BMC partnered to conduct 3 ward sero-surveys in the city.
