Counting Of Votes Begins In Assam: Guwahati Municipal Corporation Election

The counting of the votes for the Guwahati Municipal Corporation Election has begun, on April 24. The election which witnessed a 52.80% voter turnout, took place on April 22. Reportedly, 57 out of 60 wards are being contested in. Congress party contested in 54 wards, BJP in 50 wards, AAP in 39 wards, Assam Jatiya Parishad in 25 wards and Ason Gana Parishad in seven wards.

Nirmal Municipal Council's Vice Chairman Held For Raping Minor Girl

Nirmal Municipal Council's Vice Chairman Shaikh Sajjad allegedly raped a minor 15-year old girl last month, said police on February 27. The victim was taken to a Hyderabad hotel by the house owner where she lives on the pretext of a sari-function. At the hotel, Sajjad (TRS member) raped her. The incident came into light after victim approached the police, who registered a case under Section 376 of the IPC.

Tamil Nadu Govt Announces Tambaram As 20th Municipal Corporation

As per reports, Tamil Nadu State Government has announced Tambaram as a municipal corporation. The announcement came after the approval of Governor RN Ravi on the matter. Furthermore, Tambaram Municipal Corporation has been formed by merging 10 adjacent urban local bodies. Also, an Ordinance was released by the state government to the media. Notably, Tambaram is the 20th Municipal Corporation in the state of Tamil Nadu.

Delhi: Municipality Intends To Build Massive Plastic Waste Processing Centre

Odisha Likely To Conduct Seprate ULB Polls, Issues Referendum

The Odisha government is likely to conduct direct elections for the post of Mayor of Municipal Corporations and Chairperson of Municipalities as it issued a referendum to the public, on August 13. The move to amend the existing rules of 1994 will help the government to decide on the reservation for SC, ST, and OBC candidates in ULB polls. Also, the statute will be called, Odisha Municipal Amendment Rules, 2021.
