Haryana Civic Polls On June 19, Announces Election Commissioner

Haryana is all set to conduct municipal elections for 46 civic bodies on June 19. The Haryana State Election Commissioner Dhanpat Singh announced the schedule on May 23, and said, the counting of votes for municipal elections will be on June 22. Furthermore, the nomination process will begin on May 30 and end on June 4, scrutiny and withdrawal will be on June 6 and 7, respectively.

West Bengal Civic Polls Record 60.64% Voters Turnout Till 3 PM

West Bengal conducted civic elections for 4 municipal corporations, on February 12. The polls were conducted smoothy, with 60.64% voters turnout till 3 pm. The polling which started at 7 am, will continued till 6 pm in Chandernagore, Asansol, Bidhannagar and Siliguri municipal corporations. Calcutta HC Directs EC To Postpone Civic Polls By 4-6 Weeks: COVID-19

In view of the COVID-19 surge, the Calcutta HC, on January 14, directed the Election Commission to postpone civic polls by 4-6 weeks. Hearing a petition, the HC asked the EC to delay the Siliguri, Chandernagore, Bidhannagar and Asansol municipal Corporations elections, scheduled to be held on January 22. The decision came at a time when, West Bengal reported over 20,000 COVID-19 cases with over 60% positivity rate.
