American Journalist Detained In Myanmar For Charges Of Sedition & Terrorism

American journalist arrested in Myanmar's military-run government is facing fresh charges of sedition and terrorism on November 10. Danny Fenster, managing editor of Frontier Myanmar was held at Yangon's international airport in May as he sought to leave the country. If convicted, he may face up to 20 years in prison for terrorism and another 20 years for sedition. US has advocated release of Fenster several times.

Mizoram Man Arrested For Smuggling Heroin Worth Rs 4.55 Lakh

In Mizoram, a man from Aizawl's Bethlehem Vengthlang neighborhood was arrested with heroin. Reportedly, the drug worth Rs 4.55 lakh was smuggled from Myanmar, and it weighed 168 grams. The officials said that the suspected peddler belongs to the same area. A case has been filed under the necessary section of the Narcotics Drug and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985.

Earthquake Of Magnitude 5.5 Hits Myanmar; No Casualities Reported

The National Centre for Seismology said an earthquake of magnitude 5.5 on the Richter scale hit Myanmar on October 8. The scientists said that the epicentre of the quake was reported at 144 Kms West-North-West of the country. The depth is said to be 90 Kms from the surface. So far, loss to properties and human casualties haven't been reported.

Influx Of Over 8000 Myanmar Nations Into India Since Coup: Defence Ministry

The Defence Ministry stated on August 10, at least 8000 Myanmar nationals entered India since the country's coup on February 1. Minister of State for Defence Minister Ajay Bhatt said that 5,796 were sent back while 2,690 remain in the country. The Indian Foreign Ministry previously claimed that the situation was being handled "as per our laws and humanitarian considerations" and as well India vouches for Myanmar's democracy.

US Authorities Arrest 2 Myanmar Citizens For Plotting To Kill UN Ambassador

In an alleged plot to kill UN ambassador, Kyaw Moe Tun, two Myanmar citizens seeking shelter in New York have been arrested by the US authorities. The culprits have been identified as Phyo Hein Htut and Ye Hein Zaw. The accused wanted Moe Tun to resign from his post, refusal to which led them to take a drastic step. Both of them will be sentenced to five years of prison.

Drugs Recovered From Myanmar Worth Half Billion Burnt To Ashes

More than half a billion dollars worth of drugs was burned by Myanmar authorities on June 26. The idea was to warn the drug smugglers who were back in business despite COVID-19 restrictions. The activity was carried out on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2021. However, the initiative took place in Yangon where various narcotics opium, heroin, methamphetamine and more were ignited.

Myanmar's junta-controlled media alleged that an ethnic armed group murdered 25 construction workers in the eastern part of the country after kidnapping 47 people in May. According to a newspaper in Myanmar, On June 11, seven bodies were discovered, one of which was burned and the others with their wrists tied behind their backs. The report further stated that, 18 more bodies were found on June 12.
