CBI Files FIR Against Doctors Over Airhostess' Death: Gurugram

CBI filed an FIR against doctors of a private hospital at Gurugram, in a case of suspected 'medical negligence' resulting in the death of an airhostess from Nagaland. The incident occurred on June 24, 2021, when Rosy Sangma was admitted to a hospital for her severe gynecological condition. She was treated by a dentist, since the concerned doctor was not available. After she passed away, her family filed a case.

To support the Global Naga Forum (GNF) organised a two-day Naga Solidarity walk, hundreds of Nagas from Assam, Arunachal, Manipur and Nagaland, came together. On July 28, the GNF started the "One People, One Destiny" walk, from Kohima, expecting the convergence of thousands of Nagas in Senapati Town in Manipur on July 29. The walk will be resumed after a halt at night in the Maram Naga area, Manipur.

Security Forces Seize 477 Kg Ganja In Assam's Karbi Anglong

In Assam's Karbi Anglong district, police seized 477 Kg ganga from a truck, on July 17. The incident occurred in the Bokajan town, and driver Ram Chandra Yadav (57), was arrested. Upon receiving a piece of confidential information, the security forces set up a temporary check post at Khakrajan area. Reportedly, the truck which was intercepted, was coming from Dimapur side of Nagaland.

HLC Grants Additional Central Assistance Under NDRF To Drought-hit Rajasthan, Nagaland

High-Level Committee (HLC) sanctioned extra Central assistance on June 16 under National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for drought-affected Rajasthan and Nagaland. HLC authorized an extra Rs 1,043.23 crore from NDRF for the two states, with Rs 1,003.95 crore for Rajasthan and Rs 39.28 crore for Nagaland. This extra help is in addition to the cash previously provided under the State Disaster Response Funds (SDRF) from the Centre.

Centre Approves Rs 1043.23 Cr As Relief Fund For Drought-Hit Rajasthan & Nagaland

After Rajasthan and Nagaland were hit by drought from 2021 to 2022, the union government approved additional central assistance fund of 1043.23 crore in total. Of which, Rs 1003.95 crore will go to Rajasthan and Rs 39.28 crore to Nagaland. The amount was approved under the National Disaster Response Fund by a High Level Committee (HLC) under the Chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Police Seizes 615 Gram Heroin In Nagaland's Kohima

In Nagaland's Kohima, the police seized drug (heroin) worth Rs 3 crores, on May 4. As per ANI, during a routine check, the police suspected a vehicle at Peducha and recovered 49 packets of heroin, which was approximately weighing around 615 grams.  In addition, the police arrested two people who were smuggling the drugs. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.

2 Arrested For Alleged Trafficking Of Wild Chimpanzees: Assam

In Assam's Karbi Anglong district, police arrested two persons for allegedly trafficking five wild chimpanzees, on April 13. During a routine checking, a vehicle in Dilai Tiniali along the Assam-Nagaland border was intercepted, and the animals were found. Reportedly, the police handed over the monkeys to the forest department officials of the Manja range district. Further investigation on the matter is awaited.

Nagaland Govt Lifts COVID-19 Restrictions, In Effect From April 1

After Maharashtra, Nagaland has also announced to lift all the curbs imposed due to COVID-19 pandemic in the state. On April 1, Nagaland Home Ministry issued notice, permitting events with no restricted guests, night curfew, and other restrictions, with immediate effect. However, the government advised people to adhere to Coronavirus protocol for safety reasons. The decision to lift the curbs was taken in view of declining COVID-19 cases.
