54 Dead Due To Heavy Rain In Uttarakhand; Nainital Records Highest Deaths
In the past couple of days, 54 people have died in Uttarakhand as a result of flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall. Besides, 19 individuals have been injured in separate events, with five individuals still missing. Nainital had the most deaths, followed by Almora, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, and Bageshwar. According to the report, 46 houses have been partially or fully damaged.

Cloudburst Causes Landslide In Nainital; Five Reported Dead
Owing to the landslide triggered by cloudburst in Nainital's Ramgarh village in Uttarkhand, a few persons have reportedly been trapped under the debris on October 19. Police and government officials have arrived on the scene. However, the rescue team has saved a person and recovered five dead bodies so far. Besides, the district's lake has overflowed, flooding the streets and causing damage to infrastructure and homes.

Jim Corbett National Park May be Renamed As Ramganga National Park
Quoting Union Forest and Environment Minister Ashwani Kumar Choubey, the director of the Jim Corbett National Park on October 6 said the name of the park would be replaced with Ramganga National Park. During his recent visit, Choubey reportedly announced to create a tiger safari at the Dhela rescue center in Ramnagar. Besides, he assured a compensation of Rs 15 lakh for families who would be relocated outside the park.

Uttarakhand Caps 50% Occupancy In Hotels Over Tourists Rush
Owing to an increased influx of tourists in Uttarakhand, the CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has issued an order to allow 50% occupancy at hotels in Nainital and Dehradun. “Challans are being issued to those who aren’t wearing masks,” he stated. A negative RT-PCR report is mandatory to book hotels online. Luv Aggarwal, the joint secretary of the Union health ministry cautioned that the wave of Covid-19 is not over yet.

14-year-old Girl Gangraped In Uttarakhand, Suffers Critical Injuries
A 14-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by three men in Uttarakhand. The incident occurred on December 2 in forests of Nainital district of the state. Reportedly, the girl has suffered severe injuries and was admitted to a hospital. "We have received the complaint and will soon register a case," said Koshyakutoli's SDM Prateek Jain. Reportedly, the accused are the resident of the same area, in which the girl resides.

Nainital Offers 'Doli' Service To Carry Pregnant Women To Hospital
Uttarakhand's Nainital district has introduced palanquin service to carry pregnant women in rural areas to hospital. The service spans out especially to villages located in hillside areas such as Dhari, Ramgarh, Bhimtal. Releasing Rs 10 lakh to procure 500 Doli, DM Savin Bansal said the person who helps to bring pregnant women in Palanquin will be rewarded with Rs 2000. India's First Ever Moss Garden Inaugurated At Uttarakhand's Nainital
India now has its very first moss garden, which was recently inaugurated at Nainital district of Uttarakhand. The garden was inaugurated by Ramon Magsaysay awardee Rajendra Singh who is popularly known as 'Water Man of India'. With an area of about 10 hectares, the garden will be a tourist spot and home to around 30 different species of moss. It aims to conserve the species and spread awareness about them.

Uttarakhand Government Offers 'Tourist Incentive Coupon' to Visitors
Uttarakhand government has initiated a scheme called 'Tourist Incentive Coupon' for the tourists wishing to visit the state. The scheme includes a voucher of Rs 1,000 for accommodations at any destination in Uttarakhand. Reportedly, tourists who will opt for three-day stay at any hotel/homestay in the state can avail this offer. The offer will be rolled out soon and will be available to those visiting the state under "tourist category".
