PM Narendra Modi Extends Gratitude To Namibia Over Return Of Big Cat

After releasing Cheetahs in Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park, PM Narendra Modi extended gratitude to the African nation of Namibia for the airlifting of the extinct animal, making return to India, after 70 years. In his gratitude, PM Modi said, "This could not have been possible without their help". The return was in view of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Government of India and African Government.

PM Modi Releases 8 Cheetahs In Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park

Cheetahs have officially been reintroduced in India, with PM Modi releasing the eight imported cheetahs into the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh on September 17, on the occasion of PM Modi’s birthday. Cheetahs were declared extinct in India in 1952, but has not been imported from Africa’s Namibia, as part of Indian government’s “Project Cheetah”. Reportedly, the cheetahs were transported to Gwalior in a cargo aircraft.

India & Namibia Sign MoU; Likely To Reintroduce Cheetahs After 7 Decades

India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Namibia, seeking to reintroduce cheetahs into the country after seven decades. By August 15, Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park is likely to receive the first tranche of cheetahs. A draft agreement has been signed for the trade of 12 cheetahs, and the final one is likely to be signed soon. Reportedly, India is trying to get the cheetahs before 75th Independence Day.

Japan Finds 1st Case Of Omicron A Day After Closing Border

After closing all its borders to all foreigners, Japan confirms its first case of the COVID-19 Omicron variant. The variant was confirmed in a traveller who recently arrived from Namibia at Tokyo airport of Narita, reported Reuters. Closing all the borders is being considered as the world's toughest precautionary measure. Reportedly, the closure of the border, welcomed by the public, will be in effect for at least a month.
