Karnataka Govt Mandates Singing National Anthem In Schools, Colleges

Karnataka Government mandates singing the "national anthem" in schools and colleges in the State. The order dated August 17 is applicable to all government, aided and private schools and pre-university colleges. The order cites Section 133(2) of the Karnataka Education Act, which gives the government the power to issue directions, making singing the national anthem mandatory for school students during the mass prayers every morning.

No Need To Stand, 'Tamil Thai Vaazhthu' Not Anthem: Madras HC

The Madras High Court said 'Tamil Thai Vaazhthu' was only a prayer song and not a National Anthem while quashing an FIR against ''Nam Tamilar Katchi'' (NTK) by the Rameswaram police in Ramanathapuram district in 2018. The Court also clarified that there is no need for everyone to stand up when it's rendered. Reportedly, there is also no statutory or executive order requiring the attendees to stand up.

BJP Slams Mamata Banerjee For Insulting India's National Anthem

BJP leaders slammed West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee for singing ''mutilated version'' of the National Anthem at a political gathering in Mumbai on December 1. A video of Banerjee for the same has also gone viral on social media. The video was later shared by BJP IT Cell Chief Amit Malviya on Twitter, criticising Banerjee for insulting the National Anthem. He also raised questions on Banerjee's patriotism.

Meghalaya Assembly Gives Folksy Touch To National Anthem

Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh has announced the recreated version of 'National Anthem' in Shilong ahead of the 50th anniversary of Meghalaya's statehood in 2022. The idea behind it was to give local flavor to the song, sung by non-Hindi speakers. "I found out the rules and regulations in order not to run into any problems later on... what is permitted and what is not," said Lamphang Syiemlieh, a musician.
