Marking the historic 75 years of Independence Day, on August 15, the Defence Forces of India are celebrating the 76th Independence Day.  As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), commemorative visits are being undertaken by Indian Navy ships to foreign ports on every continent (except Antarctica).  Furthermore, the Indian Air Force also celebrates the event at air bases. Days ahead of the Republic Day celebration, the Union Home Ministry in an advisory has requested people to avoid use of plastic-made flags. Directing state governments to ensure strict compliance of Flag Code of India, the order allowed only use of paper made flags and their disposal in private to maintain dignity.
