Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, who was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to appear on June 23 in relation to the National Herald case, has sought for an extension "by a few weeks". She cited COVID-19, and stated that she needs to completely recover from the lung infection. Sonia Gandhi was discharged from hospital on June 20 after a surgery, due to profound bleeding from nose following COVID-19 infection.
