Cyclone Yaas Caused Loss Of Rs 610 Crore: Odisha Government
Odisha has suffered an estimated loss of Rs 610 crore due to the recent natural catastrophe, Cyclone Yaas. The state government has pegged the amount after a review meeting and it stated that the loss of Rs 520 crore was to the public sector while the private sector suffered damages worth Rs 90 crore. Notably, about 60 lakh people in 11,000 villages in the state were affected by the cyclone.

Odisha Govt Allots Rs 60 Lakh To Feed Stray Animals During Pandemic
The Odisha government has allotted Rs 60 lakh to feed the stray animals in the state during the 14-day lockdown started from May 5. The fund will be provided to five municipal corporations, 48 municipalities and 61 notified area councils. Moreover, it will be utilized by the authorities to provide food to the animals through various organisations. The decision was announced by CM Naveen Patnaik on May 9.

Odisha To Undergo 14-Day Lockdown From May 5-19
The Odisha government on May 2 announced to impose a 14-day lockdown from May 5 to 19 owing to a surge in the COVID-19 cases. Over 10,400 fresh cases were reported in the state on May 1, which prompted the government to impose severe restrictions. Earlier, CM Naveen Patnaik had requested people to be "extra cautious and alert in ensuring all measure to manage the situation in Odisha."

Odisha: Lakshmi Mittal's Nippon Steel To Set Up Rs 50,000 Cr Plant
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, via Twitter, revealed that the state government had signed an MoU with ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India to set up a steel plant in the Kendrapara district. Setup with Rs 50,000 crore investment, the integrated plant will have an annual production capacity of 12 million tons. Earlier in 2013, a similar plan by the company was dropped due to unsuitable land and the unavailability of a mining permit.

Odisha Govt Orders Probe Over Letter Claiming Death Threats To CM
Odisha government has ordered an enquiry after CM Naveen Patnaik received an anonymous letter stating a threat to his life. Reportedly, received on January 5, the letter warned CM Patnaik of a planned conspiracy that involves killers equipped with AK-47, semi-automated pistol and other latest weapons. It also mentioned that the planner is from Nagpur. Following this, the CM's security has been tightened since the letter has surfaced.
