71% Of Custodial Deaths In India Are Poor and Marginalised: NHRC Data

National Human Rights Commission’s report revealed that out of the total custodial deaths during 1996-97 to 2017-18, around 71.58% of the deceased were either poor or came from marginalized section. The study was conducted by the New Delhi-based National Campaign Against Torture (NCAT) team. Certain communities such as the Chakma and Hajong community of Arunachal Pradesh, a descendent of East Pakistan, face serious discriminations.
