Punjab, Haryana Top States With Rise In Crime Against Women: NCRB

Punjab and Haryana saw a rise in crimes against women in 2021 compared to 2020, released a report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). On August 30, the report suggested that the two states are top in crime against women, but Punjab saw a drop of 11% in overall crime incidents in 2021. Moreover, Haryana registered a rise of 7% in overall crime.

Crime Against Women Drops In 2020: NCRB Data

The National Crime Records Bureau on December 15 released the data about criminal cases against women. The data revealed that in 2020, crime against women, including sexual harassment and rape, declined to 3,71,503 from 2019's 4,05,326 cases. Of the total, the nation reported 28,046 rape cases in 2020 and 32,032 cases in 2019. In addition, the highest cases of rapes were reported in Rajasthan (5,310) and Uttar Pradesh (2,769).

Crime Rate Against Women In Delhi Takes A 25% Dip: NCRB

According to data released by the National Crime Records Bureau, there is a decline in the cases of kidnapping, abduction, or attempt to rape in the year 2020 as compared to 2019 numbers. The change may be due to the Covid-19 Lockdown and other restrictions. Delhi police reported the tally of cases as 2,938 filed under kidnapping, murder, rape, and around 1,840 cases of assault.

Cases Registered Under Domestic Violence Act Drop By 4.5%: NCRB

The National Crime Records Bureau data has revealed that cases registered under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 declined in 2019. While the year 2018 recorded 579 cases, 2019 figures dipped by 4.5% to 553 cases. However, the cases registered in matters of 'cruelty by husband or his relatives' hiked by 21.3% for the same period. NCRB Data Reveals Delhi Witnessed Highest Juvenile Crimes In 2019
