Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Dmitry Muratov Sells Medal To Support Ukrainian Refugees

Nobel peace prize laureate Dmitry Muratov, editor-in-chief of Russian news outlet Novaya Gazeta, sold his medal at an auction for $103.5 (USD). Reportedly, the money raised will be donated to UNICEF, to support counties hosting Ukrainian refugees, which includes Poland, Russia, Germany, Maldova, Slovenia, Czech Republic and Hungary. Muratov also emphasized on everyone joining hands to help the children of Ukraine displaces by war.

Anti-Apartheid Protestor Archbishop Desmound Tutu Dies: South Africa

Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who was famous for his struggle against white minority rule in South Africa, passed away at the age of 90, on December 26. The cause of his death was not revealed. However, Tutu was diagnosed with prostate cancer in the late 1990s and was also ailing due to the disease ever since. He was awarded Noble Peace Prize in 1984 for his non-violent protest against apartheid.

Journalists Maria Ressa And Dmitry Muratov Win Nobel Peace Prize 2021

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded this year to Philippines' journalist Maria Ressa and Russia's Dmitry Muratov on October 8 by Norway's Nobel Committee. They were honored "for their courageous fight for freedom of expression" in their respective countries. Notably, both the journalists have become the first to receive the award after Carl von Ossietzky received it in 1935 for disclosing Germany's ''secret post-war rearmament project''.

US' Black Lives Matter Movement Nominated For Nobel Peace Prize

One of the biggest social movement of 2020 'Black Lives Matter' has been proposed for the Nobel Peace Prize by a socialist lawmaker Petter Eide. The movement targetting racial injustice was founded in the US and gained momentum in May 2020 when the US Police brutally killed a black man George Floyd. Later, protests broke around the world raising awareness against racial inequality. The prize is scheduled for announcement in October 2021.
