Mamata Banerjee Receives 600 Kgs Mangoes As Gift From Bangladesh PM

Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina has sent 600 kg of mangoes as a gift to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. "Mangoes comprising the ‘Himsagar' and ‘Langra' variants have been sent to Banerjee, as part of diplomatic efforts. Last year, too, we had sent mangoes," said an official in the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission. The Bangladesh PM has also sent mangoes to all the chief ministers of the northeast states.

Indo-China Border Security Budget Increased By 6 Folds: MHA

The Ministry of Home Affairs informed Lok Sabha that the budget allocated for the border security in the northeastern area, were increased by six folds in year 2021-22. The statement came after MP Dilip Saikia raised a question regarding the funds allocated for the said purpose. Reportedly, Rs 42.87 crore were allocated for the Indo-China border security in the year 2020-21. Whereas in 2021-22, Rs 249.12 crore were allocated.

Health Ministry Releases Rs 1,300 Cr Covid Relief Package For Northeast

The health ministry under the Covid relief package will dispense a fund of Rs 1,300 to the Northeast to combat pandemics. The announcement was made by the Union Health minister Mansukh Mandaviya on August 17. "The fund will also be utilized to speed up the vaccination drive by the states in the region. The government of India is committed to providing enough vaccines to the states," Mandaviya said.

Earthquake at magnitude 4.2 jolts Assam; No Casualties Reported

An earthquake of 4.2 magnitudes struck at Assam with its epicentre being near Tezpur at 1 AM, on June 19. In the last 24 hour, this was the fifth quake to hit the Northeast region. However, no casualties have been reported or any damage to property witnessed. Besides, following the tremor in Assam, Manipur and Meghalaya also recorded 3 & 2.6 magnitude on June 18, respectively.

New Genus Of Treefrog Discovered In Andaman Islands

What can be termed as an incredible discovery, a new genus of frog family was found in the Andaman and Nicobar islands. The new genus - Rohanixalus - was named after renowned Lankan taxonomist Rohan Pethiyagoda. Its size is up to 3 cm, with coloured strips filled with speckles. The research head SD Biju stated that the discovery would help in assuring faunal exchange between Andaman and Indo-Burma region.
