Delhi HC Asks Centre To Decide Representation For Creating NRI Commission

The Delhi High Court on April 22 asked the Centre to decide representation of the national level NRI welfare commission "as expeditiously as possible and practicable". With the observation, the HC disposed of the plea seeking creation of NRI commission. The petitioner Anisur Rehman, a NRI in Oman since 2007, claimed a dedicated commission will help streamline all the NRI related welfare schemes on one platform.

OCI Cardholders Rules For Re-Issue Of Overseas Citizen Of India Cards Eased

The government has now simplified the process of issuing Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) cards. According to the new rule, an individual registered as an OCI cardholder after turning 20 does not need a new card on the issue of a fresh passport. Notably, the old rule required the re-issuing of passports after an individual turns 50 citing facial changes due to old age.

Centre Relieves OCI Diaspora From Carrying Old Passports During Visit

The Centre has waived off the need of carrying old passports by travellers of Indian origin and Indian diaspora having Overseas Citizens of India cards. Earlier, it was mandated for Indian diaspora to carry their OCI card with the old passport number and their current passport for a trip to India. Moreover, the March 29 notification also extended the time to get the OCI cards reissued, to December 31.

In a gratifying initiative, some Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) have turned an old government school in Jalandhar’s Bhandal Himat into a creative spot for learning. 6 Lakh+ Indians Give Up Citizenship During 2015-19; Study, Job Key Reasons

The Home Ministry has disclosed that over six lakh Indians gave up their citizenship during 2015-19 in favour of securing citizenship of another nation.
