India's CAG Murmu Elected As External Auditor At IAEA

At the Vienna International Center, India left behind Germany, UK and Turkey to bag IAEA external auditor position. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), aimed at promoting peaceful use of Nuclear Energy. After the first round of voting Germany stood at 36 votes, followed by India (30), the UK (08), Russia (11), Turkey (09), Egypt at (20) and Republic of Korea (02). After beating Germany, incumbent CAG Murmu was elected.

Japan to Discharge Fukushima Plant's Contaminated Water Into Pacific Ocean

Japan is planning to release over 1 million tonnes of polluted water from Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into Pacific Ocean. Reportedly, the plant site is running out of space to build more tanks, while the available tanks will be full by 2022. Local fishermen opposed the decision saying it took them years to rebuild the fishing industry after 2011 Tsunami.
