Senior IAS Officer Vinod Kumar Dismissed Over Corruption Charges: Odisha Govt

Senior IAS officer Vinod Kumar was dismissed from duty by Odisha Government over corruption charges, on February 3. A statement from the CMO mentioned that after receiving approval from the centre, the 1989 batch IAS officer was dismissed. According to the statement, in 1999, Kumar approved loans anointing to Rs 33.34 crore to fake private firms. Reportedly, out of 27 corruption cases filed against him, he was convicted in two.

India Reports 2nd Death Due To Omicron In Odisha

India reported its second death due to COVID-19's new variant, Omicron. On January 6, an Omicron-infected woman died in Odisha. Dr Snehalata Sahu, CDMO of Balangir confirmed the death and said, the 50-year-old who was suffering from a brain stroke, died on December 27. She was tested COVID-19 positive and after genome sequencing test, she was reported Omicron positive. The first Omicron death was reported in Rajasthan.

Odisha Govt Bans Fircrackers; Extends Night Curfew Till Nov 1

To protect the health of the citizens amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Odisha government on September 30 banned the sale and usage of firecrackers during this festive month. Besides, the government said that the night curfew will continue in urban areas from 10 PM to 5 AM between October 1 to November 1.
