Vedanta To Invest Rs 25,000 Crores In Odisha, Signs MoU
Vedanta Resources announced an investment of Rs 25,000 crore for the expansion of its aluminium, ferrochrome and mining business in Odisha. The decision to have investment in "Make in Odisha" initiative was made on September 16, after the Vedanta representative met with Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik. Vedanta already has the single largest investment of Rs 80,000 crore in the state and its quantum of investment contributes 4% GDP.

IAF To Hold Air Show In Odisha, Approval From Civil Aviation Ministry Awaits
The IAF's Suryakiran aerobatics team is scheduled to display air shows next week, September 16-18 in Bhubaneswar and Puri, said the official. The Suryakiran (sunrays) is set to conduct the air show near the Raj Bhavan in Puri, for an exhibition over a stretch of Kathajodi river bed in Bhubaneswar. However, the civil aviation ministry is yet to approve the air show.

Special POCSO Judge Dies By Suicide In Odisha’s Cuttack
A special POCSO court judge Subhash Kumar Bihari was found hanging at his official residence in Odisha’s Cuttack, on September 2. A preliminary investigation revealed that he had applied for two days of leave on , and another leave on August 31, and another leave on September 2. Reportedly, a case of suicide has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact reason for his death.

Rs 869 Crore Distributed To 41 Lakh Farmers Under KALIA Scheme: Odisha
Under the Krushak Assistance for Livelihood and Income Augmentation scheme (KALIAS), the Odisha government on September 2, distributed Rs 869 crore to 41 lakh small marginalised farmers. The donation has come on the occasion of Nuakhai, the harvesting festival of Odisha. The CMO informed that each farmer has been credited with Rs 2,000 directly into their bank accounts.

Odisha Police Arrest Two Persons For Trying To Sell Chameleon
In Odisha’s Bhubaneswar, two persons have been arrested for allegedly trying to sell a chameleon, on August 29. Reportedly, the accused were trying to sell the animal for Rs 1.50 lakh, before getting nabbed by forest officers, who were posing as buyers. The accused have been identified as Rashmi Ranjan Das and Khiroad Mohanty. According to Schedule 2 of the Wild Life Protection Act, smuggling of chameleon is illegal.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik Launches ‘Startup Odisha Yatra 2.0’
Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik has launched the “Startup Odisha Yatra 2.0” initiative, aimed at promoting entrepreneurship among youth. This flagship initiative also aims at scouting grassroot innovators and women entrepreneurs. The Yatra is expected to cover around 100 educational institutions across 30 districts, in a period of 60 days. “The state has a mission of 5,000 startups by 2025,” said CM Patnaik.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik conducted aerial survey of flood-affected areas including Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Khurdha. Meanwhile, the situation continues to stay grim in the regions. Boats have been sent to assist the villages, while medical camps and cooking facilities have also been set up. Over 4.67 lakh persons across 10 districts have been affected. Also, 1,757 villages have been affected.

Odisha Schools Suspended For 2 Days In Puri, Other Cities Owing To Flooding
The flood in the Mahanadi river system has displaced over 4.67 lakh people across 12 districts in Odisha. Angul, Bargarh, Boudh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri, Sambalpur, and Subarnapur are the worst affected districts. Meanwhile, in Puri, the district government has ordered that all schools, both public and private, remain closed for two days due to the current flood situation in the district.
