Odisha Beach Witnesses Birth Of 1.48 Crore Olive Ridley Turtles This Year
The Gahirmatha beach in Odisha's Kendrapara district has witnessed the birth of 1.48 crore Olive Ridley turtles. Starting from April 25, the "babies emerged from 2.98 lakh nests dug by female turtles to lat eggs at the Nasi-ii Island." Considered the largest nesting ground in the world for the species, the island had attracted 3.49 lakh female turtles this year.

Odisha HC Institutes 3-member Committee To Probe Turtle Deaths
The Odisha High Court on February 27 instituted a three-member committee resuming inquiry into rising mortality rates of the Olive Ridley turtles. Acknowledging media reports as PIL, the Odisha High Court had recently issued notices to the state government, demanding adequate measures towards conserving the endangered turtles. Odisha: Around 800 Olive Ridley Turtles Found Dead Since Jan 2021
Odisha’s Gahirmatha sanctuary official revealed around 800 Olive Ridley sea turtles have died since January 2021 as the dead carcasses surfaced ashore the sanctuary and adjoining beaches.
