Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu Bags Gold Medal At 36th National Games

Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu expectedly won the gold medal with a total lift of 191 kgs in the women's 49kg weightlifting competition at the 36th National Games, held in Gujarat. The event was held on September 30, in which Chanu bagged a prestigious medal.  Recently, the athlete claimed the Commonwealth Games gold medal in Birmingham in August, after lifting 84kg in snatch and 107 kgs.

Samar 'Badru' Banerjee, Former Captain Of Indian Football Olympic Team, Passes Away

Samar 'Badru' Banerjee, a former Indian footballer and Olympian, died at the age of 92. During the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Banerjee captained Team India. He had Alzheimer's disease, high blood pressure, and azotemia, among other problems. A CT scan revealed that there was bleeding in the brain. However, after a few days of struggling, he passed away on August 20 at the SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.

Neeraj Chopra Aims Medal At Maiden World Championship, Goes To Finals

Indian Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra qualified for his maiden World Championships final. On July 22, Chopra gave a stunning first attempt throw of 88.39m here, and secured his place in the finals of the championship. The 24-year-old Indian, opened the men's javelin throw Group A qualification round with to 88.39m throw.  This is his third career-best throw, for another medal. The medal round will be held on Sunday (7:05am IST).

Indian Hockey Stalwart Varinder Singh Passes Away At 75

Hockey Star, an Olympian and World Cup medallist Varinder Singh (75) passed away on June 28, in Jalandhar.  The prestigious Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award holder, a gold-medalist and pride of hockey stalwart participated in the 1975 men's Hockey World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, the only gold medal win of India.  He was also in Olympic events winning bronze in 1972 and silver in 1973 matches for India.
