India Reports 1 Lakh COVID-19 Cases, Omicron Tally Breaches 3K Mark

India reported 1,17,100 fresh COVID-19 cases, 30,836 recoveries, and 302 deaths in the past 24 hours, according to the data released by the Union Health Ministry, on January 7. The country's total active cases stand at 3,71,363, and deaths at 4,83,178. The daily positivity rate is recorded at 7.74%. The Omicron tally of COVID-19 Climbed to 3,007, of which Maharashtra identified 876 cases, followed by Delhi (465), Karnataka (333).

India Reports 6,987 New COVID-19 Cases, Omicron Tally Crosses 400

The Union Health Ministry said that India reported 6,987 new COVID-19 cases, 7,091 recoveries, and 162 deaths in the past 24 hours, on December 26. India's total death tally stand at 4,79,682, recoveries at 3,42,30,354 and active cases at 76,766. Furthermore, the Ministry's data said that the Omicron cases reached 422 in the country. Besides, India has so far administered more than 141.37 crore vaccine doses.

Andhra Pradesh Reports 2 More Cases Of Omicron: COVID Update

The state of Andhra Pradesh has reported two Omicron cases, taking the total tally to four, as of December 24. The Director of Public Health Dr. Hymavati said that one Omicron patient is a 41-year-old  returnee from Kuwait and the other is a 31-year-old returnee from UAE. "So far 53 international travelers and 9 contacts were found COVID positive and all the samples were sent for Genome Sequencing," she added.

Delhi Records Its Second Omicron Case: COVID-19

Delhi recorded its second case of COVID-19 Omicron variant on December 11 as a Zimbabwe returnee tested positive for in a 'genome sequencing' report. The Delhi Government stated that the travel history of the person claimed he also travelled to South Africa. However, the person is fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Notably, the first of Omicron was reported to the World Health Organisation (WHO) on November 25 in South Africa.

UK Likely To Expect 1 Million Omicron Cases By Month End: Health Secretary

India Records 5th Case Of Covid-19 Omicron Variant In Delhi

In India, COVID-19 Variant Omicron's number rose to five as Delhi reported its first case of the variant on December 5. Reportedly, the infected person returned from Tanzania and now has been admitted to the LNJP Hospital. Notably, the first two cases of Omicron in India were reported from Karnataka. The third and fourth cases were reported from Gujarat's Jamnagar and Maharashtra's Dombivli, respectively.
