PM Modi Extends Greetings On Occasion Of Onam

On the occasion of Onam, PM Modi extended greetings to the people of Kerala, on September 8. He stated that “the festival reaffirms the vital role of Mother Nature and the importance of our hardworking” farmers. Onam is a harvest festival, mainly celebrated by Malayalis. The 10-day illustrious festival is being observed from August 30 to September 8. The celebrations also mark the Malayalam new year.

Kerala's Decision To Ramp Up Testings May Be A Bit Too Late: Health Experts

Health experts stated that Kerala's decision to ramp up testing might be a bit too late as daily COVID-19 cases reach 31,445 and TPR 19.3%. They further added, the post-Onam surge and the consequences of less than 1.5 lakh testings will be visible in the coming weeks. In a high-level meeting, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan mentioned Kerala as an example of how to handle festival seasons.

Union Health Minister Asks States To Learn From Kerala's Mistake During Onam

For the recent spurt in COVID-19 cases in Kerala, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on October 18 blamed the state government for showing laxity during the Onam celebrations. Citing this, the minister asked other states to take lessons from Kerala and take care ahead of the festive season. Reportedly, Kerala's Health Minister K K Shailaja had said that carelessness against COVID-19 was observed on the public's part during Onam.

Going by the reports of vehicle registrations' data, the demand increased by 4% in August from July in the country. However, experts feel that the sales might fall in September as some customers consider the first 17 days of the month inauspicious.
