The President of the Congress, Sonia Gandhi held a 19-party virtual meet on August 20, where she asked the opposition leaders to “plan systematically” for the upcoming national election in 2024. “This is a challenge, but together we can and must rise to it because there is simply no alternative to working cohesively together,” added Gandhi. On September 14, first day of the moonsoon session, election is scheduled for the post of Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha. While the ruling NDA has still not finalised a candidate, the opposition is planning to support the DMK MP, Tiruchi Siva. Tiruchi Siva is expected to reach Delhi by September 10, after which a decision will be taken. The nominations for the post will close on September 11.
